Our Commitment To Ethical Sourcing
Why Transparency is Important To Us?
Showpony Hair Extension Ethical Sourcing Process
Empowering you to embrace ethically sourced hair extensions
At Showpony, our commitment lies in ensuring our products and our business practices embody our ethical and moral principles. We strongly believe that no one should be forced to sell their precious locks against their volition — that’s why sustainability and ethical practices across the entire supply chain are our primary focuses.
At Showpony, we are passionate about providing hair extensions that are ethically sourced. We believe the Hair Industry should be transparent about hair extension sourcing, watch our video below to understand how Showpony Hair is ethically sourced.

1. Ethical Sourcing & Cutting
The process begins with ethically sourcing virgin, cuticle-intact Remy hair from trusted communities in China, where the environment produces strong, untreated hair. We set age limits (13+) to ensure girls are not exploited, and purchases are voluntary, often helping to support family education. By paying fair market rates and requiring suppliers to follow Showpony’s Supplier Code of Conduct, we ensure that hair is obtained without coercion or unfair labour. This step not only guarantees premium quality but also empowers women in rural economies, directly aligning with our human rights and ESG commitments.

2. Grading & Buying
Buyers travel to rural areas to carefully select hair bundles (braids). Hair is graded by texture, colour, and length. Each bundle is washed and prepared for processing. This grading ensures consistent quality, while transparent traceability systems (such as VAT invoicing ) prevent corruption or misuse in the supply chain. By demanding supplier audits and documentation, we build a value chain rooted in integrity and accountability.

3. Preparation & Purification
Before colour work, hair undergoes environmentally responsible washing and bleaching. Showpony requires suppliers to recycle and purify water, minimise chemical runoff, and use dyes certified by the China Dyestuff Association (Green Leaf Certificate). Hazardous chemicals are managed with strict safety data sheets and waste regulations to prevent pollution. These practices reduce environmental harm, protect biodiversity, and contribute to our net zero by 2050 goal, ensuring that quality processing does not come at the cost of the planet.

4. Hackling, Density & Alignment
Bundles are hackled to align hair bases and remove shorter strands, ensuring even density and preventing tangling. Approximately 5% of hair is lost during this step.. Workers performing this stage must be trained, provided with protective equipment, and work in safe, well-ventilated environments. This step reflects our commitment to workplace safety, equality, and fair labour conditions, ensuring the artisans behind our products are treated with dignity while delivering the smooth, high-performance hair extensions Showpony is known for.

5. Quality Testing & Verification
To guarantee longevity and safety, each batch undergoes rigorous strength, cuticle, bleaching, wash, and pull tests to ensure consistent excellence. All products must comply with international standards for cosmetic safety and our Supplier Code of Conduct for product quality. Transparent testing records are maintained for traceability. This transparency reinforces our brand promise of premium, safe, and reliable products.

6. Traceability & Transparency
Every step of the supply chain—from rural collection to final packaging—is tracked through audits, documentation, and annual inspections. Showpony works with suppliers to ensure accurate traceability despite rural cash economies by requiring official invoices and digital records. Marketing and educational content, such as behind-the-scenes documentaries, highlight these practices, turning compliance into a storytelling advantage. This approach not only safeguards ethical standards but also strengthens Showpony’s position as a transparent, integrity-driven brand.

7. Empowering Communities & Workers
Behind every Showpony extension are artisans and women whose work uplifts families and communities. Our suppliers focus on women’s empowerment through education, healthcare access, and equal opportunities in nurturing, family-like environments. These values are consistent with our Supplier Code of Conduct on diversity, equality, and inclusion, ensuring safe and respectful workplaces free from discrimination or harassment. By shining a light on these makers, we reinforceBeauty with Integrity—products that honour not only beauty but also the people who bring it to life.

8. Final Packaging & Circularity
Extensions are packaged using sustainable materials—soy-based inks, recyclable packaging, and minimal plastics. Suppliers are expected to reduce waste, reuse materials, and implement circular solutions where possible. Showpony drives initiatives to eliminate unnecessary packaging, while ensuring the end product arrives safely and beautifully to the salon. This final step closes the loop on ESG commitments by reducing environmental impact and embedding circularity into the life cycle of our products.
